Josiah’s 5 Months & the Makings of a Prima Ballerina
Wow! Our second gift from God has turned 5 months! In true mom-of-two fashion, I’m late writing this. Story of my life now. My previously punctual self is typically running the appropriate 5-15 minutes late for everything which I now call “mom time”. Luckily, most of my crew knows that if I say I’m leaving the house at “X” time, you can bet a few shoes will be lost, a few fresh poopy-diapers will need to be changed, and there will be a melt-down from someone because a certain item can’t be located (it could be me or the kids on this one)! The point is I’m now late on almost everything…and that’s okay! I’m learning to give myself the same grace I extend to my kids and others, and it’s making my life easier.
What can I say besides I am SO in love with this little guy. I look at him and I can’t believe how wonderful God’s timing and provision are. It is no small blessing to me to be his mother and have both him and his sister. In the last month, he has grown so much! We went through a killer sleep regression, and I mean killer. For over 5 weeks I didn’t get more than 2-3 hours sleep per night. I can proudly say we all survived that challenge and all are alive and well. I can also say we created a sleeper during the last week of that regression! Thanks to an awesome friend loaning out a zipadee-zip (pure gold if you’re having sleep issues mommas!), and a few really tough nights of crying-it-out (which wasn’t fun for any of us), my boy is officially sleeping through the night! I’m still not used to more than 6 hours of sleep but my body is slowly finding out that’s again acceptable.
Other than conquering our sleep regression, in the last month Josiah has developed a love for the pool and the water, successfully stayed in the stay-and-play at the gym and the nursery at church several times, began to play more interactively with his toys, conquered more than 15 minutes at a time on his tummy, explores with his ability to blow bubbles and continues to experiment with his voice. He has also developed major eyes for his daddy. He lights up when Daddy comes through the door and giggles instantly when he’s in Daddy’s arms. It’s the sweetest bromance I’ve ever seen. I melt when I watch the way these two love their daddy. Joy beyond belief. We celebrated Daddy’s first Father’s Day with Josiah and enjoyed making things all about daddy for a change!! It was such a fun time to spoil our man!
We are currently practicing sitting up for small increments, and finding toys that keep his attention and help him learn about the world around him. He loves anything musical, anything that rolls/shakes, and of course he is a television watcher (which his sister never was). He loves to watch bubbles float in the air, cracks up when you make funny faces/noises to him, and loves to hear mom and dad sing. We just love watching him grow, big sister included. Happy 5-months sweet boy, I never knew I could be so in love with two men at the same time! <3
Meanwhile, big sister is busy working on becoming a prima ballerina. She began her first dance and gymnastics combination class at The Little Gym and I’ve never seen her happier! It is also making her become a monkey; climbing, jumping, and swinging from all things she can reach! She’s enjoying being a little helper these days; she loves to help feed Gunner, help fix dinner, she loves “mixing” and “being a bakery”. I love how she loves life. Her favorite things these days besides playing with her buddies and being at the beach, are playing outside for hours blowing bubbles and playing on her swing set. She’s also quite the fish in the pool these days and prefers to swim unassisted (with her puddle-jumper of course). She appropriately refers to herself as a big girl, and mommy and daddy just sit back and watch her grow at the rapid pace these babies are! It’s a sweet sweet time in our lives!
