Addisyn’s Royal 5th Birthday!
I have learned a few specific things this past week. One of those being that I’m too old to be busting out flips at the trampoline park with my kids (hello lower back pain). Another being that my youngest is becoming super independent, running around on the soccer field, keeping up with the big kids, and being able to do so many things for himself! And lastly, that my daughter is getting more beautiful each day… and that slightly scares me. After all… she’s now FIVE… and this post is kind of about her.
I remember all too well the feelings I had in the early morning hours before Addisyn’s birth. I was already in labor when we headed to the hospital for my scheduled c-section, and I was equally elated and terrified. Not about the physical pain thanks to my ridiculously high paint tolerance, but I was terrified about the fact we were bringing home this precious gift from God that would depend us on for every need. Some days parenting feels very much the same as the day you bring your first-born home from the hospital, often as your children progress to new stages and need you differently. Some days you’re just astounded that it’s already been FIVE glorious years with them, and are so grateful they depend on you for every need.
At five, Addisyn has a very elaborate imagination. Free play, creativity, and art are her niche’s and if you know her you know she’s all things rainbows and unicorns (half the day, she’s a fantastic unicorn of various colors and does not deviate from her character). She loves dancing, gymnastics, music, reading, and putting on shows. She’s starting to take a big interest in the piano, and she’s always singing. She’s pretty much the epitome of sparkles and glitter with a little bit of sass as she welcomes her 5th birthday.
She was very specific about her birthday celebration; she wanted a princess party with all her gal pals, a Rapunzel tower cake with her hair cascading down, and a dance party with her friends. She had all those things and more. It was such a fun evening with friends and all our royal princess guests and little brother’s special prince guest. Later in the week she had a special date with Nana at Chuck-e-cheese, she partied with other birthday pals. On her actual birthday, she enjoyed the trampoline park, lunch ate the spot of her choice, and a movie. We all enjoyed watching her be ecstatic about turning 5 and enjoying her friends. It was a royal birthday celebration, indeed.
Five seems big. In the scheme of things…and in a decade I’m sure it will seem very small. Yet now, watching her change, grow, and mature is just as exhilarating as being both excited and scared the day of her birth. Addisyn, you’re such a joy to us. Your Dad and I love watching you become who you desire to be, and who God has called you to be. That will forever be our prayer for you, that you’re always unapologetically you and also in love with God and His path for your life. We adore laughing, dancing, singing, and be surprised by you each and every day. Happy Birthday, Bug!
